Pre filming :
For our first sessions in our group we gathered around a table and thought of ideas like genres, themes and a general overview of a plot. We all agreed on the film opening being a horror out of preference and interest but also because it is the most commonly know and watched genre. From this point we began developing the plot further and add details onto the storyboards. We created a power point and a mood board to pitch our idea to our teacher for approval and then when we had the all clear from the teacher we began organising filming times, locations and actors ready for when we started to film which was ideally the following Friday due to the timescale we had, and the weather was predicting a clear sunny day which was essential for our theme of our opening. We had to fill out the shooting scripts and arrange transport to get to our first location of filming which was at a field at Northycote farm, to film the conversation scene between the four protagonists and the mid shots of the actors.
Filming/Editing:
Our first filming session took place at Northycote farm about 5 minutes from our school. We arranged for the school minibus to take us there and then collect us 2 hours later so we had enough time to fit as much filming in as we could. We went to film during our double media lesson so we were still able to attend our other timetable lessons without the filming clashing together. Here we got all the shots for the conversation between the four protagonists and the tracking shot from the sun.
The tracking shot of the sun took a lot of takes, we had to adjust to using the tripod because of the stiffness when we tried to move it, but also because sometimes the clouds would get in the way of the sun so the shot was no good. We shot the whole conversation scene first as a long shot, we had to retake this about 5 times because of interruptions or if the actors got their lines wrong and if the actors went out of shot. Then individually we did the close ups and mid shots because it was more practical and made it easier when ordering the footage when we were ready to edit on iMovie.
We went out to film again the following week because we had to re shoot some of the close ups because the angles hadn't matched the previous shots. We also started to film the panning shot onto the shadow, for this we went through the same preparation as previously.
To film the last shots in alley were relatively easy to do in terms of transport because of it being a minute away on foot, so the planning for this was easier than the other shots because if we forgot anything or finished early we could just walk back to the school. However by this point in filming it was our last chance to film, so some of the shots was lack of continuity where the victim was wearing glasses, and we were unable to go back and film once we realized because we need to start editing the opening on iMovie ready for the deadline.
